Wow! I just learned B&N pays 8.5%
I appreciate comments from readers like you that have been down similar paths...
Now earn up to 8.5% when you become a part of the Barnes & Noble.com Affiliate Network!
My application hasn't been processed yet or I'd be using their link below. Currently, you can easily find three titles I'm responsible for bringing to market: Think Two Products Ahead, Poker Without Cards and What Would Bill Hicks Say?.
My Amazon affiliate link will go up from 4% to 6% after I have linked to TWENTY-ONE different books or Amazon products. So, you will see me hustling...
The trick is to make the use of products important to you. You see the Amazon link above...of course you do. Doesn't this look very similar to this link?
The difference is that this second "Poker Without Cards" book doesn't exist. What do I mean it doesn't exist? It was never published. This may seem confusing, but I used this as part of a promotional strategy I did. You see, I promoted a digital download of Poker Without Cards and I was creating what is called an Alternate Reality Game, a technique used to promote Halo II among other video games. You can read a chapter I wrote in this book...
My target audience was those who enjoyed having their realities expanded. Poker Without Cards is an inquiry into power, probably too esoteric for most readers seeking to make money now. Joseph Matheny, the famed media theorist who proved his commercial viability as an Adobe brand manager when he gave away the consumer reader and sold companies the writer, helped me with alternative promotional tactics like the podcast you can listen to here.
My biggest claim to fame in viral marketing was constructing a website, WHATwouldBillHicksSay.com during the 2004 presidential elections. The timing was key because a comedian who had been dead for nine years had material about "President Bush and the Iraq war" and suddenly it was relevant again and so we posed a contest for bloggers to enter what Bill Hicks would say if he were still alive...over 500,000 unique visitors in one month. Soft Skull press ASKED ME IF THEY COULD PUBLISH MY BOOK. I'd sent over 100 query letters on my last book and now a publisher was asking me...as seen here:
BUT I DIDN'T MAKE ANY MONEY OUT OF THESE FUN EXPERIMENTS.
Now, you are on the inside track as I explain how I make money around my February '07 launch of my next book...
